Manfrotto LUMIMUSE 8 LED Light Review
Brightness
When it comes down to it, the brightness and quality of the light is what really matters. While the other features are important, they are almost secondary to this one essential feature. So how does the light stack up on this Manfrotto Lumimise 8 LED Light?
So what about the numbers? According to Manfrotto, this particular model has an output of 550lux of illumination which is measured at a 1m/3.28 feet distance. Not bad! This is made possible by the 8 LED lights which are configured in a circular formation.
Overall I was super impressed with the output of light from this Lumimise light. While I wouldn’t use it to light a full studio shot, it came in perfect for interviews, background lighting, product photography and weddings to name just a few.
Color Temperature & Rendition
So the light can throw off a lot of light… But how does the color temperature and rendition stack up?
As for the color temperature, this Manfrotto Lumimise 8 LED Light has a 5600 Kelvin rating which is pretty standard for LED lights. In other words this unit is a daylight balanced LED light which gives off natural tones.
One other thing I forgot to mention about this model is that is has 4 dimmable lighting settings. Each going up in 25% increments. Very rarely did I go to 100% unless it was a very dark environment.
Battery Life
As this unit is a portable LED light, battery life definitely an important factor. So how did the battery perform?
Compatibility
Where Manfrotto lacked in adding the USB charging cable, they instead opted for a hot shoe mount. This small yet versatile adapter made is easy to attached this to my Canon 70D which made it great for recording YouTube Vlogs.
Also on the underside of the hot shoe mount is a standard 1/4” thread so I was able to attach it to my tripod or other supports. I can image this thread would come in handy for attaching to a Joby GorrillaPod and then having that as an assistive light for a photo shoot.
Portability
By far one of the most attractive benefits of this LED light is definitely the portability or “pocketable” component. When I say this thing is small, I’m seriously not joking. Measured up it is 1.1 x 2.3 x 2.8 inches which makes it fit in the smallest of pockets or tiny camera bag compartments.
Functionality
I used this light for a wide range of uses and I’m sure there are plenty more out there that it can be used for. Here are the main ones I used this LED light for:
- Hot shoe light for YouTube Vlogging
- Secondary light for portrait photography
- Interview light on camera
- Wedding photography
- Product photography
- iPhone videos and photography
- Fashion shoots
- Backlight for lighting subjects
- Tripod or stand light
Specifications
Accessories
Another thing I really liked about this portable LED lights and for most Manfrotto products is the amount of accessories that are available. While I didn’t personally purchase any accessories for my Manfrotto LUMIMUSE 8 LED Light, there are heaps of great filter packs available that allow you to change the color temperature.
